IBIS / AST Salmon Stocking Conference
January 07, 2014The IBIS/AST Salmon Stocking Conference was recently held in Scotland, November 27-28, 2013. IBIS is the Integrated Aquatic Resources Management partnership between the Loughs Agency, the University of Glasgow and Queen's University Belfast whose goal is to help protect aquatic resources across Northern Ireland, the Border Region of Ireland and Western Scotland. AST is The Atlantic Salmon Trust. This two day conference explored the touchy subject of Atlantic salmon hatcheries and the benefits and risks associated with stocking. This is the first conference of its kind to focus entirely on hatcheries. The organizing groups should be commended for this effort. We need a similar event here on the Pacific coast, one put on by an independent entity.
All of the conference proceedings were recorded, you can view a full set of all 22 videos at the IBIS EU YouTube page. Below is the conference welcome video and a few of the noteworthy sessions.
