Urgent: Vote Now for the Lower Columbia Wild Steelhead Gene BankFebruary 02, 2016
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is currently accepting comments on selecting the next Wild Steelhead Gene Bank, this time for the lower Columbia River Basin. WDFW's Gene Bank determination is part of an ongoing process by the agency to reduce the impacts of their steelhead hatchery programs on select wild steelhead populations across the state. Research shows that hatchery fish negatively impact wild populations and compromise efforts to recover them. WDFW is currently accepting comments on your preferred Gene Bank Rivers for this region through February 26, 2016. Help protect wild steelhead in Southwest Washington by selecting the Grays and Chinook rivers as the next Wild Steelhead Gene Bank.
If you care about wild steelhead, please send your comments today--vote for the Grays and Chinook rivers as a Wild Steelhead Gene Bank. Comments must be received no later than 5p.m. Pacific time on February 26, 2016.
