Why Water Type?
Why Water Type?
Accurate regulatory stream, or 'water type', maps are fundamental to ensuring existing regulations effectively protect streams and wetlands. Unfortunately, most water type maps used by the state and local governments of Washington are demonstrably inaccurate. Correcting these maps is one of the most effective tools for protecting important stream and wetland habitats.
In 2011, WFC is performing water type surveys to correct regulatory maps in the WA counties of San Juan, Mason, Kitsap, Thurston, King, and Clark.
