Fishing For Science

Calling All Anglers! If you fish the Upper Icicle Basin you can provide valuable  information for an ongoing scientific research project. Wild Fish Conservancy scientists are currently collecting baseline data about fish populations in the Icicle Creek watershed and need your help to learn more about fish presence and distribution.

To learn more about this project and how you can contribute please join Wild Fish Conservancy Board President Bill McMillan and other Wild Fish Conservancy staff
at the Barn Beach Reserve in Leavenworth on Friday, August 15th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Please join us if you’d like to participate in this exciting study!

Barn Beach Reserve is located at 347 Division Street in Leavenworth, WA. For driving directions go to: www.barnbeachreserve.org or call (509) 548-0181.

Project Background:
Wild Fish Conservancy is currently in the second year of a ten-year scientific research project studying Icicle Creek. For 65 years, the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery prevented migratory fish passage to Icicle Creek's near-pristine upstream habitat. Recent passage improvements at the hatchery are restoring access for migratory fish. Wild Fish Conservancy is now investigating how the process of recolonization occurs, and how the return of migratory fish impacts overall watershed health.

Project Goals and Objectives:
To collect baseline data about fish presence and distribution in the Icicle Creek Basin so we can gain a better understanding of habitat use, population structure and dynamics, and genetic make-up of resident and migratory salmonids.

Wild Fish Conservancy would like to acknowledge the generous support of its partners for this event, Barn Beach Reserve and KOHO Radio.
