Board Members Up for Re-Election

Check out the bios below for three Wild Fish Conservancy board member positions up for re-election and then fill out the form to cast your vote!

Board Position 7

Dr. Rick N. Williams

Rick Williams is a fisheries ecologist and Affiliated Scholar in the Department of Biology at The College of Idaho. His research and consulting activities focus on the conservation of native steelhead, redband, and cutthroat trout in western North America. Rick has been active in Columbia River salmon recovery issues since 1987. Rick and colleagues published a book on Pacific salmon recovery (Return to the River 2006) that describes the century-long decline of Columbia River salmon and steelhead and proposes a new approach to their restoration Rick is a Life member of Fly Fishers International (FFI) and Trout Unlimited (TU). He serves as the Senior Conservation Advisor for FFI and is a certified Master Casting Instructor (1998) and a Two-Hand (Spey) Casting Instructor (2007). Rick is also active in Scouting, serving as Eagle Advisor in a Boise troop, as the Western Region Conservation Representative, and as a member of the National Hornaday Committee and National Conservation Task Force. Rick and his family (Shauna, 20-year old Christopher, and a black Labrador) live in Eagle, Idaho. Family interests include hiking, river rafting, and trout fishing in the summer, steelhead fishing and bird hunting in the fall, and skiing and bonefishing in the winter months.

In November 2024, Rick and colleagues published a new book 'Managed Extinction: The Decline and Loss of Wild Salmon and Steelhead in the Pacific Northwest'.

Board Position 8

Kurt Beardslee

Kurt Beardslee is a co-founder of the Wild Fish Conservancy and served as the organization’s Executive Director for over 30 years. In October 2024, Kurt was appointed to the Board of Directors to succeed Jim Lichatowich, our beloved friend and former Board member who passed away earlier this year. Kurt continues to support the organization on a volunteer basis as the Director of Special Projects. In these new roles, Kurt will continue to serve as a leader on a number of WFC's priority science, education, and advocacy initiatives. Over the years he has enjoyed working with staff on a variety of wild fish issues, from Central California to Northern Alaska. Previously Kurt worked as an art director in an advertising agency producing educational films for the National Science Foundation.

A lifelong Washingtonian, Kurt enjoys boating, fishing and exploring the remote coastal fjords of northern Canada with his wife Candy and his dogs Wally and Fred.

Board Position 9

Dr. Steve Conroy

Dr. Conroy has been associated with WFC in a variety of roles for over 30 years. His work outside of WFC includes addressing water quality and stormwater issues, performing ESA evaluations, and constructing fish passage and stream restoration projects. He spends his spare time fishing, hunting upland birds with his dog Solo, and cycling and traveling with his wife Julie.
