With construction nearly complete, we made a necessary trek into town to resupply on hardware, food, and fuel. By chance, we crossed paths with Blair Peterson, a veteran commercial fisherman and our partner in research. It was a wonderful opportunity for the crew to take a moment to relax and chat for a bit. Blair, a third generation trap fisherman, was kind enough to provide us some insight on the world before our generation. We peered over river maps and photos from the days his father and grandfather fished traps in the Cathlamet Channel (with one historic trap positioned at our current project site) while Blair spoke of the vast numbers and astounding size of fish that once swarmed the river. It reminded us of exactly why we are here, fighting for wild fish.
