Farewell, For Now

Test fishing is finished on the Columbia, and we are very pleased to announce that the trap successfully captured 7,138 salmonids with a 99.87% immediate survival rate! With our PIT tagging goals reached, we look forward to investigating cumulative survival to see if this gear may truly be a sustainable alternative to conventional commercial gears. It is our hope that this study will help address harvest and hatcheries issues and benefit both wild fish and fishermen.

We hope to post a video filmed by Shane Anderson of north fork studios in the near future. It will give you a more in depth look at the trap with interviews from staff biologists, executive director Kurt Beardslee, local fisherman Blair Peterson, and esteemed biologist and author Jim Lichatowich.
